3-21-18 STORM WATCH UPDATE (8:15 AM)
Due to anticipated hazardous driving conditions, Town Offices are closed.
* Forecast: With forecasts for 12″ to 18″ of wet, heavy snow accompanied by winds of 20 to 30 MPH and gusts of up to 40 MPH, the Town continues to prepare for the possibility of power outages caused by downed trees and electric lines.
* Response of Utilities: Both Con Edison and NYSEG have provided liaisons and crews to work directly with me and Town personnel leading the storm preparation and, as applicable, response.
* Emergency Responders: I have been in regular communication with our Fire Departments and Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps who also have been making preparations.
* Preparations for Warming Center, Dry Ice, Etc.: As I mentioned yesterday, given the possibility of power outages, the Town has on standby a warming and charging centers, located in the Courtroom of the Town Offices at 321 Bedford Road in Bedford Hills. As needed, we will make arrangements for dry ice distribution, overnight shelter, wellness checks and other measures.
Our highest concern is the safety and well-being of our community. I ask that you please be safe. Please stay away from downed electrical wires. Give yourself extra time in driving and avoid driving if the conditions are too severe.
PLEASE BE SAFE and PLEASE DON’T EVADE OR UNBLOCK barricades or emergency tape which emergency personnel have put in place. They are there to protect the community. We have reports from our Fire Departments of multiple incidents of motorists during the past storm cutting emergency tape or moving barricades exposing themselves to live power lines.
