NYSDEC E-Waste Law in effect January 1, 2015
Beginning January 1, 2015, New York State’s electronic waste disposal ban will apply to all persons in the state, including individual and household consumers.
We do not anticipate this ban posing any significant issues; however it is now state law. We wanted to remind all municipalities and licensed private haulers not to collect e-waste that is placed out for disposal as garbage. For more information, please visit the NYSDEC web site: http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/66894.html
As some background, New York State law requires manufacturers to take responsibility for recycling many types of electronic equipment they have produced, such as computers, computer peripherals, televisions, small scale servers, and small electronic equipment, etc. Manufacturers now provide free and convenient acceptance programs for NYS consumers to properly recycle their electronic equipment. In addition, residents of Bedford can drop these items off at the Recycling Center, T,Th and Saturday, 8:00 – 3.
