WE ARE CONTINUING TO MONITOR THE STORM FORECASTS (3.20.18 PM)
Drivers, please do not bypass barricades or caution tapes as they nearly always block off downed wires. In nearly all cases these are live wires. Please do not risk electrocution or injury to you or others. Even if you live on the road, do not bypass barriers that are there for your safety and that of others.
The Town is preparing for a severe storm of wet, heavy snow with predicted accumulations of 11” to 15”. The storm may be accompanied by high wind gusts. There is a moderate to high risk of downed trees and electric lines. Last night I asked NYSEG and Con Edison to provide crews no later than tomorrow morning.
Our Highway Department, Police Department and other staff are making preparations. I am confident that our Fire Departments and Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps are doing likewise. Given the possibility of widespread power outages, the Town will have warming and charging centers on standby, arrangements for dry ice distribution, overnight shelter, wellness checks and other measures.
Depending upon the severity of the storm, I will make a decision early tomorrow morning whether Town Offices will be open and whether to issue a proclamation of a State of Emergency. Our highest concern is the safety and well-being of our community and employees. I ask that you please be safe. Please stay away from downed electrical wires. Give yourself extra time in driving and avoid driving if the conditions are too severe.
We will continue to provide updates.
