Power Point presentation

Westchester Power (Community Choice Aggregation, a/k/a CCA) is a community-based bulk energy purchasing program intended to lower costs and increase the use of renewable energy in Westchester County. Westchester Power is a program initiated and implemented by Sustainable Westchester Inc, on behalf of member municipalities that have chosen to participate in the program.

Sustainable Westchester is a non-profit organization that serves the interests of its member cities, towns and villages. Westchester Power provides residents and small business electric customers a locally chosen alternative to the state-mandated utility—Con Edison or NYSEG—for energy supply. Westchester Power represents the best interests of consumers by providing choices for lower,
fixed prices and cleaner energy.

Westchester Power 2019 Report 3.5.2019

Westchester Power

The Town of Bedford is a member of the not-for-profit Sustainable Westchester and has participated with other Westchester County municipalities in the CCA bulk purchasing program.  As you may have read in this space, Bedford was the first municipality to renew its participation in CCA for the Con Edison service area in town. We did so based on the new fixed rates for a second contract term beginning January 2019 and ending December 31, 2020. The new rates, effective January 1, are 7.96 cents/kwh for 100% renewable energy, with standard supply a fraction of a penny less at 7.71 cents/kwh. To learn more read here.

Westchester Power received bids for the renewal of CCA which complied with the requirements (see below) for the NYSEG service area.  Direct Energy, a Texas-based wholly-owned subsidiary of British multinational Centrica PLC, submitted the winning bid which satisfied our conditions both for the standard supply and the New York State origin renewable energy supply.  The company has business in several states, including community aggregation programs in Ohio, Illinois and Massachusetts and has been doing business in New York for 14 years. Read the report here.

You may have heard recently from Con Edison Solutions or Constellation Energy introducing you to Westchester Power, a new energy program that is intended to provide choice and lower pricing for all Bedford residents and small businesses.  This program has been operational as of May 1, 2016.

Many have called with questions regarding  the letter explaining the program.  Others may have discarded it thinking it was junk mail.  The following may be helpful:
